Running From the Fire Within

Have you ever had a hot flicker

Make its birthplace on your blazer?

What did you do?

Remove it, for sure

But which way would you go

If there was a fiery inferno

Torching the inside of your core?

What then?

Who will you blame?

What object will you throw

To the floor?

No fire extinguisher

Could help the upcoming blister

Can you hear the sound of my feet?

You guessed it – I’m running

Where am I going?

Somewhere far, far from the heat

I’m still not sure where I’ll find that safe haven

All I know is the sting I feel within

The scalding sweat dripping from my skin

I don’t even know when – IF – I’ll return

I just know I need to stop feeling the burn

I was recently watching a show that talks of suicide. 13 Reasons Why. For those that haven’t seen it, it’s very powerful, very awakening, very touching…
And based on my own experience, I came up with these words. Anxiety does this to a person. That antsy feeling that you just want to run. Run away from it all… even from your stressed out body.

If you have suicidal thoughts, or an overwhelming sense of anxiety, please seek help — it’s out there. And know that there’s many of us who are going through the same thing. And many of us who have gone through the tunnel and arrived at the light. The calm, peaceful safe haven 🙂
