Old, Beloved Key

It’s been so long

Since the day

You decided to walk away

You told me not to try to contact you at all

Don’t stop by, don’t text, don’t call

Because you wouldn’t answer me

Because another girl

now has the key

To your world

But the antiquated key

That I hold in my hand

In the multidudinous sand

My hand holds onto it tight

Though a futile fight

You long ago made up your mind

But I just can’t let go

of this beloved memento

Or the memory

of the door it opened at one time

Some memories are worth holding on to
